Cosmetic Dentist?

How many years, and how long does it take to become a cosmetic dentist? Any good schools? I'm planning on going to a 4-year college but i want to know what to do after that, or if I should take the full 4 years. Any tips from dentists? thanks!

Cosmetic Dentist?
Any general dentist should be capable of doing cosmetic dentistry.. That's why "cosmetic dentistry" is not recognized as a specialty by the American Dental Association.

To become a dentist in the USA, you need to either earn your Bachelors degree in a 4-year college then go to dental school, or go into a combined 7-year BA/DDS program.

While you are doing your Bachelors, you need to fulfill the pre-dental course requirements, take your DAT exam, and get good recommendation letters from your instructors (most of which needs to be science instructors). Then apply and get into a dental school.

There are only 53 dental schools in the USA, so they are all "good." Which one you choose depends on your location and if the school fits your preferences and needs.

4 years of dental school later, you graduate with a DDS or DMD degree (same degree, just different letters) and you are a dentist.

Hope this helps.
Reply:"th" is correct - there is no real specialty recognized as "Cosmetic".

One of the big dental mentors is fond of saying, "All dentistry should be cosmetic." In other words, if you bother restoring teeth, it should look good.

Many doctors attend additional courses after graduation to improve their skills, especially if they want to focus on the "extreme makeover" part of dentistry. In that case, the Las Vegas Institute, or LVI, is probably the best known.

Personally....if I walked into a dentist's office and saw anything about LVI, I'd run.
